My name is Jennie and I homeschool my three boys, ages 7, 15, and 17. Our family moved to Springwater 2 years ago and have struggled to find homeschooling groups that are nearby. Though there are several wonderful homeschool co-ops in Livingston and Ontario County, they are all a long drive for us. So, I decided to start a new co-op closer to our home, offering outdoor education for grades K-12, as being outside is one of the greatest parts of homeschooling for us! With a couple of other families looking for the same homeschooling experience as I am, we organized Forest Fun Homeschool.
In addition to homeschooling, I am also a teacher. I hold a Master’s Degree in early and special education from St. John Fisher College. I have taught elementary through college level, worked as a private tutor and assisted with curriculum development for a variety of ages and grades K-12. I have experience as a teacher working in, and as a mother of children attending, private, public, and charter schools. Between the three of my children I have homeschooled kindergarten up through graduation. My eldest, who earned his GED last December, has now started taking college classes through a local community college. We have homeschooled in a variety of counties throughout upstate NY and I am very familiar with the NY homeschooling laws, as well as the special education laws as I taught special education for K-4th grade from 2011-2012.
This fall I will also be teaching a Learning Pod in Rochester through Grace Collaborative, as well as a teen program through the YMCA. Our family is involved in 4H and volunteers at local non profits throughout the year. I love being part of my community and am always looking for new opportunities to contribute and grow my village!
About Jennie
I love being outdoors, especially hiking with my dogs and foraging for wild berries! In the summer I spend a lot of time in the water, paddle boarding, swimming, and playing with my dogs and kids. I am very crafty and love making my own soap, crocheting, scrapbooking, and recently our family’s fairy house won “Most Unique” at the Cornhill Festival and was on display at the Museum of Play in July!
